Use the timing for Mounjaro, with the date and time of your next scheduled dose in front of you.
Check the next scheduled dose
Take a missed Mounjaro dose as soon as possible. If fewer than three days remain before your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your usual day. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed injection.
| Time until the next scheduled dose | Next step |
|---|---|
| Three days or more | Take the missed dose as soon as possible. |
| Fewer than three days | Skip the missed dose; take the next dose on your usual day. |
| Timing is unclear | Ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse to check it with you. |
Use the actual dates and times. If your usual injection time is in the morning, counting only calendar-day names can be confusing near the boundary.
Two examples to help count the time
Four days remain
Your usual dose is Monday at noon. You remember the missed dose on Thursday at noon. There are four days until the next scheduled dose, so take the missed dose as soon as possible.
Two days remain
Your usual dose is Monday at noon. You remember on Saturday at noon. Fewer than three days remain, so skip the missed dose and use your usual Monday schedule.
These examples use a weekly Monday schedule. If your own dates differ, check them rather than matching only the weekday in an example.
When your routine has been interrupted
Follow your prescriber's instructions and do not change your dose unless your doctor tells you to. If you do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist for help.
If more than one dose has been missed, contact your prescriber to confirm your next step. Have this information ready:
- The date and time of the last injection you actually took.
- Your prescribed strength and the strength printed on the pen.
- The scheduled injections you missed.
- Any symptoms or changes in your other medicines.
- The date and time you expected to inject next.
Our contraceptive-pill guide can help you prepare a related medicines question.
Set up a reminder you can use
Mounjaro is used once a week, on the same day if possible. A change of injection day must leave at least three days between doses.
Choose a reminder that fits your routine: a calendar alert, a written record with your medicine supplies, or a weekly diary entry. Tick off the dose after taking it, and record the time if you are checking a missed dose.
If you think you have used too much Mounjaro, seek urgent advice even if you feel well. Contact the NZ Poisons Information Centre on 0800 764 766, your doctor, or the nearest emergency department.
Get help with an interrupted schedule
Send us your last injection date, prescribed strength and next scheduled date so we can understand the question. For a possible overdose, seek urgent advice directly.
