Check the pen name, expiry date and storage instructions before you pack. Make storage part of your travel plan.
Check your pen before making a plan
Wegovy FlexTouch is a pre-filled pen containing four doses. Check its name and expiry date, and keep the medicine out of reach of young children.
Keep the carton and leaflet with your planning notes. Write down the date you started using the pen and the date you first took it out of the fridge. Take those details to your pharmacist if you need help working out when to discard it.
Temperature and time limits
Store Wegovy in a fridge at 2°C to 8°C, away from the cooling element. Do not freeze it. A FlexTouch pen may be out of the fridge for up to six weeks below 30°C. Discard the pen in use after six weeks, even if medicine remains.
| Situation | What to check |
|---|---|
| At home | Fridge temperature, expiry date and a place away from the cooling element. |
| Away from the fridge | The below-30°C limit and your written dates. |
| After an injection | The date the pen must be discarded and where it will be stored. |
| At the end of the pen | Arrange safe disposal rather than saving leftover solution. |
Keep the pen in its original carton to protect it from light. Do not use it if the solution is not clear and colourless, or if you think it has frozen or been exposed to excessive heat.
Prepare for a trip
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about your travel plans. Ask for a letter explaining your injecting devices and take copies. Wegovy FlexTouch may not be available in the country you visit.
- List the travel dates, including any overnight stops.
- Check how you will keep the pen within its temperature limits during each part of the journey.
- Ask the accommodation about the fridge you expect to use.
- Check travel-provider and destination requirements before departure.
- Keep your prescriber and pharmacy contact details with your medicine notes.
Discuss a suitable carrying arrangement with your pharmacist. Include the transfer between home, transport and accommodation in the discussion, rather than planning only for the final destination.
If heat or freezing is a concern
Tell your pharmacist where the pen was, for how long, and whether you know the temperature. Examples include a pen left in a parked car or stored beside a fridge's freezing element. Keep the pen's name, strength and expiry details ready.
Do not use a pen you think has frozen or been exposed to excessive heat. Take unwanted or expired medicine to a pharmacy for safe disposal; used needles go into a sharps container.
If you also feel unwell during treatment, our Wegovy side-effects guide explains when to seek help.
