Ask for the cost of each part of care, what it covers and when you would need to pay.
Separate the main cost categories
Stela publishes consultation fees and follow-up fees on its pricing section. Use those current figures when planning, and confirm what your own appointment includes. This guide deliberately does not turn one person’s possible care into a fixed package price.
Clinic appointments
Ask about your initial appointment, the expected review schedule and any separate doctor or dietitian visits. Confirm the fee for each appointment type.
Tests and local care
If tests or an examination are needed, ask where they would happen and whether a charge applies. Do not assume every outside service is included in the clinic fee.
Pharmacy supply
If a medicine is prescribed, ask the pharmacy for a current quote, the supply period it covers and any delivery or supply costs.
Check funding separately from suitability
Pharmac’s update dated 14 May 2026 states that Wegovy and Mounjaro are not publicly funded for weight loss and that patients should ask their pharmacy about prices. We checked that page on 30 September 2026. An application or recommendation for future funding is not a funding start date. Read the Pharmac source.
Funding, clinical suitability and the price you are quoted are different questions. Ask your clinician about suitability and your pharmacy about the actual charge. This page does not recommend either medicine.
If affordability is a concern, explain that during the consultation so it can be part of the discussion before a plan is agreed.
Build a budget from confirmed quotes
- Choose a planning period with your clinician, such as the period until the next planned review.
- Write down the appointments expected in that period and their confirmed fees.
- Add any quoted test, local-care or pharmacy costs that apply.
- Mark anything unknown as “to confirm”, rather than treating it as free.
- Ask which costs might change and when you should update the budget.
A simple calculation
Confirmed appointment costs + quoted pharmacy costs + any applicable tests, travel or delivery = your estimated cost for the chosen period.
Keep one-off costs separate from recurring costs. If a quote covers a different period, ask for help comparing it before calculating a monthly amount.
Ask about changes before committing
- What is payable before the appointment?
- What would another clinical review cost?
- What happens if I need a different type of appointment?
- What cancellation or rescheduling terms apply?
- If I cannot continue with the budget, who should I contact to review the plan?
